FW: [Soot-list] Exception: This operation requiresresolvinglevel......

Given that I do not actually contribute to Soot, I have very very little
say in this matter---what follows is just my gut reaction opinion.

The problem I have with the wiki is that it's slow and ugly, and that I
think Soot documents are best managed under Subversion. TeX is
generally more friendly for technical documentation as well.

My experience to date with group projects says that having multiple
places to get help (mailing lists, mailing list archives, publications,
wiki, tutorials, API, source code, source code comments,
person-to-person, private email, man/info pages, subversion log, bug
trackers, irc, forums---okay, Soot doesn't have an irc channel or
forums) actually leads to the worst documentation, because things are
either scattered, or effort is spent on redundancy. I think the mailing
list can serve well by itself as a good funnel for creating better and
more concrete documentation.

Perhaps from now on, asking users to summarize their question along with
an appropriate answer on the mailing list for inclusion in a
developer-maintained FAQ would be a natural way to approach it.

Cheers,
Chris
