The Secure Software Engineering Group in the Fachbereich Informatik of
Technische Universität Darmstadt is currently offering a position for
a

Research Assistant in Secure Software Engineering

with the goal to further develop the group’s expertise in the area of
constructive software security. The Secure Software Engineering Group
is part of EC SPRIDE, the European Center for Security and Privacy by
Design, a new competence center funded by the German Ministry for
Education and Research (BMBF). Funding for the advertised position is
secured until Sep. 30th, 2015. EC SPRIDE actively supports
collaborations with other re-searcher centers worldwide, and offers
young researchers an optimal working environment in every aspect.

The European Center for Security and Privacy by Design (EC SPRIDE)
will supplement the existing IT security research in Darmstadt with
its outstanding fundamental research, thereby helping to round off the
research pro-file in Darmstadt. In addition to this fundamental
research, the Center will also significantly influence the practical
activities. Darmstadt provides a unique concentration of IT security
expertise, bundled in the Center for Advanced Security Research
Darmstadt, CASED. With well over 200 scientists in the area of IT
security, Darmstadt is one of the largest and fastest growing IT
Security locations in Europe. In the EC SPRIDE the Technische
Universität Darmstadt and the Fraunhofer SIT now cast a spotlight on
the research topic Security and Privacy by Design, expanding and
benefiting from the existing competence and infrastructure. Although
EC SPRIDE will cooperate closely with CASED, it will develop its own
fundamental new methods.

The Research Group on Secure Software Engineering will play a central
role in EC SPRIDE, developing methods and tools in the area of
constructive software security. The group aims at developing
languages, mechanisms, processes and tools that allow software
developers to clearly state security requirements and, if possible,
synthesize partial implementations that achieve or help achieve these
requirements. In cases where automated syn-thesis is impossible, and a
programmer hence need to implement security features by hand the group
uses automated program analyses to assist the programmer in deciding
whether the implementation indeed fulfils the stated security
requirements.

Applicants must have completed (or be close to completing) a Master or
Diplom with very excellent grades in Computer Science, Mathematics,
Electronics or a closely related subject. Additional knowledge in
IT-Security, Software Engineering, Programming Languages and/or
Program Analysis are a plus, and applicants must be willing to work on
a subset of those subjects for an extended period of time. We expect
successful candidates to conduct independent research within the
context of EC SPRIDE, and actively support such candidates in
publishing their work on the leading international conferences and in
the leading international journals.

EC SPRIDE further actively supports their researchers in obtaining a
Ph.D. degree. For this purpose, successful candidates can enrol in the
Ph.D. program at Technische Universität Darmstadt. The university’s
graduate school Ingenium provides additional support in this context.
The Technische Universität Darmstadt has a large interest in
increasing the number of female researchers, and hence particularly
encourages female candidates to apply. Applicants with a degree of
disability of 50% or more will be preferred in case they are otherwise
equally qualified to the other candidates.

The position is compensated according to the collective labour
agreement for Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV - TU Darmstadt, EG
13). It is generally possible to work part time.

Please send your application with the usual attachments (CV, copies of
transcripts and certificates, for Post-Docs at least two references)
to Dr. Eric Bodden (e-mail: eric.bodden at ec-spride.de) or by mail to EC
SPRIDE, Dr. Eric Bodden, Secure Software Engineering Group,
Mornewegstr. 32, 64289 Darmstadt.

More information can be found online at: http://www.ec-spride.de/
Applications are open already and will be accepted until the position
has been filled.
