[Soot-list] meaning of this line code

Hi dear Reader,
I have seen this line of code in a tutorial:
        defBox.getValue() instanceof DefinitionStmt
the question that I have is: isn't a defbox always an instanceof  DefinitionStmt? 

If so what does this code mean?
