[abc] lots of new bugs

Atrack is turning out to be a very thorough test of abc.

In the process, of trying to compile it, I've run into six abc bugs (or
at least issues to consider). Some of them, such as bugs 23 and 24, look
rather nasty. I've grouped the compilation of atrack as bug 21, which
is set to depend on the bugs which prevent atrack from compiling (5,
17, 19, 22, 23, 24).

Please have a look at them.

For each bug, I tried to put in a workaround in the atrack code and
continue compiling. I got stuck at bug 24, for which I couldn't come up
with a workaround. When 24 gets fixed, I'll continue compiling it and
possibly find more bugs.
